OUGD503 TRANSIENT SPACE RESEARCH

To begin this brief I had to understand what was required. A small animated gif between 5-10 seconds long that was created with the theme of 'disruption' was what I had to make. It could be interpreted however I wanted, be it political, religious, social or completely upon its aesthetic. I could use images, typography, moving image or whatever I felt fit. The brief is quite open as it will be showcased along many other short gifs creating a large disrupted piece of projected animation.

To begin my research I looked up the definition of disturbance, which was to interrupt an activity, process or event. Other synonyms related to the word are upset, unsettling, interface, confusion and disordering. I thought it was interesting that the word 'interface' was placed here given the fact it seems like quite a modern word related to technology which perhaps wouldn't have been in connection with 'disruption' about twenty years ago. Obviously we live in a digital age surrounded by technology in almost every way and it almost controls our lives and how we think. This is a form of disruption in a way that we are almost being disconnected from the real world and spending for time in the digital 'interface'.

Having researched the word 'interface', a definition appeared stating this "the combination of two or more electromagnetic waveforms to form a resultant wave in which the displacement is either reinforced or cancelled." This is also mainly a digital led definition of 'disruption' relating to electromagnetic waves which have connotations of radio waves and sound. All of these words have quite strong visual presences, for instance 'interface', 'digital', 'wave' and 'electromagnetic'. 

This is the kind of visual presence that I'd like my short animation to have. I want it to represent a disruption in the world due to digital devices and their interfaces. I will do this using a similar aesthetic to those of radio waves and digital interfaces. I'd also like to try and show a timeline of the planet without digital and watch in being more disrupt over time due to the creation of technology. I would begin generating some imagery based upon these themes, aesthetics and ideas.
