For my individual practice brief, I am going to complete three small briefs to fulfil the work load. The first small brief I will complete is the transient space brief. This is a small one which I have previously practised with, however this time I will complete it more seriously and spend more time on it. This requires my skill in animation to create a small pop-up gif between 5-10 seconds long based on the theme of disruption. This can be interpreted however I like and then be a part of the next transient space exhibition.
The second small brief will involve me to participate in the penguin book competition. I will be entering a re-created book cover for the children's book 'Wonder' by R.J. Palacio. This will involve me to read the synopsis and really understanding the book to find a common theme within it that could be visually represented on the cover. When I have completed the cover I will also enter it within the competition.
Finally, I have been commissioned to create an event poster for a band called Fresco who will be performing in Manchester in February. I will create a simple poster design following an aesthetic of some kind that will relate to their genre of music and the venue. I will have to carefully make sure the event information is visible and easily understandable whilst also being communicated creatively.
Studio Brief 2 Collaborative Practice
You will have to collaborate to produce a series of three photography zines based upon anything you like. It's up to you to make them link and contain some form of narrative, theme or style that reflects the fact that they are a part of the same series. This can be done by using the same style of photography through out or creating the physical publication in such a way that clearly translated the fact they are together. This can be interpreted however you like.
Using both your skills of photography, publication making, layout design and knowledge upon creating a narrative within the zines, you must be able to create some form of clear message throughout the zines. This can be done in the way the zines are produced or the way the content has been sourced.
Your target audience is small independent book publishing companies, zine fares and other small press businesses and events. This should reflect how the style of the content and creation of the physical publication will translate. You will encounter quite an abstract competition, so make sure your ideas are strong and carry weight through every aspect of the project.
You need to consider a tight budget. If these zines were to sell you need to guarantee a profit. Consideration into materials used, printing method and binding will reflect this. Don't forget that this will also effect the quality of the work within and possibly change the narrative or story you are trying to tell.
