During my final crit I presented my current up to date mock up. This one was quite messy but demonstrated very clearly what the final publication would look like. My group stated that the creep was the biggest problem of the book and had to be accounted for very carefully. This would be done by measuring the creep and playing with the options in inDesign to print each page slightly off, so that when folded and cut they would all line up simultaneously on each page. Another issue I had was that the insert in the middle was a bit stiff and had to be a bit carefully slotted into the cuts in the pages. It had to be more fluid along with the rest of the pages. This could easily be done by cutting the pages individually instead of all together. They said that the simplicity of the books aesthetic was perfect and the whole thing would be consistent when complete, especially the embossing.
Some new ideas the group had was about weighing the book down. They had a few ideas of once again, hiding metal sheets within the book cover or cutting out sections and replacing them with wood. These were all decent ideas but they went against my new rule of using the same material throughout the entire publication. It was finally decided that the gsm of the paper within was enough the weigh the book to the right scale.
