OUGD503 TRANSIENT SPACE DEVELOPMENT

I began digitally illustrating a few ideas on illustrator and attempting to animate them in after effects. My chosen idea would involve the revolving digital planet. This would represent how our world has been disrupted by digital interface and is controlling the world we live in now. Using thin light line strokes that match each other throughout with no alteration matches the chosen aesthetic used in illustrating radio and sound waves, which was the aesthetic I decided to use during my research. Experimenting with these lines and basing them upon the shape of the earth, or a sphere, I managed to create a decent earth like illustration using these simple tools.

After reviewing this and receiving some feedback it was clearly missing a few details to make it more planet like. I continued to perfect the illustration to make sure that when you looked at it, it was clear to what exactly it was trying to be. One person stated that at the moment it looked more like a basket ball than anything. Before continuing the illustration I also wanted to see if I was able to even animate it to spin. After a lot of work on AfterEffects, I managed to figure it out and make the lines of the planet revolve around the sphere.

Now knowing that this was a successful animation, I could then continue the illustration to make it more suited to earth aesthetic that it was supposed to be representing. One problem I had with the animation was that due to the lines being such a light weight, the animation became unclear as the lines spun around they all merged into one shape and appeared to be remaining still. This would be corrected by increasing the weight of the lines.

This is my most up to date version of the animation. I have thickened the lines slightly to give more depth to the illustration. The planet spins quite quickly too as I still wanted it to have some form of a disrupted aesthetic. I feel like if it was too slow it would seem quite friendly. Given the fact its quite a negative topic I wanted it to come across quite violent and quick.
