Flag Development

Flag Development

After sourcing these patterns from the bank notes I thought I could create some sort of flag from this. I had been told try and just place the whole note onto tyrex with the correct colours representing the Sao Paulo flag which I tried. This was an easy design however I thought it wouldn't hurt to have a few different ideas to play with. I first took the simple bank note design in full and switching the colours a little bit, originally they were black and red but I also tried red and navy as there were hints of navy in the flag.

I reckon these designs are really solid however very simple. They convey the context very well, you can see all the patterns and you can tell it's definitely not an english bank note. I was given the idea to fold and bend the note into peculiar shapes to see the patterns overlap to perhaps create new shapes. This could also relate to the general punk/D.I.Y aesthetic that I was kind of going for. Makes the note look kind of destroyed and ruined which relates to a theme of anarchy and abusing the system in a way. Doing this has created a really cool effect with the pattern and has also created new ones in this form. I once again used the same colours as previously but kept this one a bit darker to reflect the whole punk aesthetic which may be what this design needs.

Finally I took patterns from all of those folded bank note scans and collaged them together. This has given a similar effect as the previous design but on a larger scale. This would also make the viewer pay more attention perhaps to the design and look at the note with more attention. I reckon this process has definitely created more patterns and effect. It also reflects the messy punk aesthetic perfectly as it almost looks like rubbish thrown away. I used similar colours as before but tried them in a few different intensities.
